For the curious, there are two people in this shot, one behind the other, and the blur was actually done in PS because I felt the images needed a little extra something. The hand positioning in the second shot is my favorite from the whole set.

Possessed
To get this effect I put a cylindrical clear glass vase over the camera lens. I tried to shoot through the bottom of the vase but it was too thick, but I could shoot through the side if I tilted it a little. Spinning the vase gave me different light refraction depending on the imperfections in the glass. I much prefer to shoot this way so I can see the distortion with my own eyes.
